If you have been following us or our start-up, I believe you forgot to send us the memo that it’s NO easy task… It’s a real slog out there! We have had to dig deep and use the good old “YOU CAN DO IT” philosophy of being Petey Persistent, Gabby Get-a-long, Remi with her Resilience, Oscar Organised and always having Connie Confidence. Man! It can be hard and has sometimes taken a mighty effort… Luckily enough, we found some other great friends to help, who were more than up for the challenge and would help us get on our way. They include Brave Dave, Funny Fran, Courageous Clary, Witty Wal, Roger the Risk Taker, Wanda Wild and Silly Sambo! Just for the record, though… We had to put a massive sign out the front banning Negative Norms or Sarcastic Shirleys. GET OUT, NEGATIVE NORM, you’re not welcome here!
It’s been great getting out there visiting, ringing, and emailing schools, and then visiting and ringing more schools. The hardest part is seeing how busy the amazing admin staff are! Let me tell you something: working in a school is certainly not for the faint-hearted.
Buckle up, partners we are trying it again next week! By now, all the ringing and emailing of schools, kindies, OSHCs and other educational providers might have landed me in some hot water or a large sinkhole full of thick, brown, sloppy mud, with me sinking quickly. I have found that it can be difficult to get myself out of it! To add to this, I wouldn’t be an ounce surprised if my name is sludge right now, but that’s ok because if you watch Outback Truckers, you know that Sludge is an Outback trucking LEGEND, so I’m down with that.
I’m okay with not having a squeaky clean name or persona. If that’s a consequence of what it takes to get our Mighty Moments Programs noticed by schools, kindies, OSHC, parents, kids, and the community, I will keep on, keeping on, and take those risks. As we say at Mighty Moments, NO RISK, NO REWARD. So, let’s get a little risky.
Can I let you in on a secret? I’ve noticed that Board Buddies gets the most interesting responses. Often because people see it as just playing board games with kids. Well, give me a minute to change your perspective! Have you ever seen the face of a six-year-old when they win their first-ever board game? Their self-confidence goes through the roof; that’s seriously priceless. Have you seen how much forward and critical thinking goes into a move in Monopoly or on a chessboard? What about the concentration and excitement when a large Jenga piece has been removed and the tower did not fall? What about the agility, strength, sheer terror and balance in a game of twister? To move from the red circle to the blue. More importantly, the absolute excitement and laughter when someone produces an interesting and unidentifiable picture in a game of Pictionary that no one can guess.. This is absolute GOLD and makes our hearts sing, and stomachs hurt with laughter. Having fun through play, nothing beats it! It’s good for our hearts, better for our bodies and brilliant for our minds.
Play = POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH and less anxiety… WINNING!!!
Now, if I haven’t been able to change your mind about what we do, see, and know about board games, kids, and development, I challenge you to book your child for our classes and watch them grow and blossom. Social and Emotional Development is our thing, and what better way to do it than on a chessboard, through a game of Monopoly, building an enormous tower in Jenga, collaborating as a team in Pictionary, being daring in a game of Sponge Bob Squarepants UNO, or being good old brave Dave in a game of Wobbly Worms.
That’s all, folks… Hold on to your school hats, ’cause here we come to a school near you!
